Network Topologies for Composable Data Centers

Suitable composable data center networks (DCNs) are essential to support the disaggregation of compute components in highly efficient next generation centers (DCs). However, designing such DCNs can be challenging. A DCN that adopts a full mesh backplane between disaggregated within rack and employs dedicated interfaces on each point-to-point link is wasteful expensive. In this paper, we propose describe two (i.e., electrical, electrical-optical) variants network for DC (NetCoD). NetCoD targeted design reduce number transceivers required when physical deployed same rack. The leverages optical communication techniques achieve with minimal or no performance degradation. We formulate MILP model evaluate both rack-scale DCs implement different forms disaggregation. electrical-optical variant achieves similar as reference while utilizing fewer per node. adoption technologies by greater (4 - 5 times greater) utilization available throughput than which implements generic design.
